CNG Vehicle Fueling Applications

   The Knox Western design utilizes pressure packings that isolate the gas from the compressor crankcase, allowing for safe operation. This crankcase contains a fully machined crankshaft, double row spherical main bearings, steel backed tri-metal connecting rod bearing s, and high strength bolting, All running gear is pressure lubricated by a shaft driven lobe type oil pump.

   Natural gas fueled vehicles are sensitive to liquid carry over from the compressor elimination of lubricating oils from the compression process is very important. As the leader in non-lubricated cylinder design, Knox Western offers a solution to the continuing problem of fouled engine fueling systems and decreased vehicle storage capacity by using advanced TFE ring materials, eliminating the need for lubrication in the cylinder. This saves the vehicle owner down time and maintenance.

   The cylinders on the Knox Western compressors are non-cooled cylinders. Non-cooled cylinders employ large surface areas to conduct the heat of compression into the ambient air. The cool inlet gas entering the cylinder through large passageways within the cylinder casting accomplishes further cooling. These cylinders have the advantage of simple construction, free from the stresses induced by local cooling and eliminate the requirement of a closed loop cooling water system. Gas cooling is accomplished by the use of a forced air cooler.
